The bathroom that most captured our imagination this year was under the stars on the Central Plateau – with no roof and few of the usual mod cons. But there is hot water, and privacy screens, and it is clearly enough to soak in the tubs and enjoy the glorious lake view beyond.
The outdoor bathroom, with two matching freestanding tubs, was part of a major renovation by Haimes Building of a home in Taupo. The whole house impressed the judges in the regional Master Builder House of the Year Awards, winning the Bay of Plenty/Central Plateau Supreme Renovation Award, the Bunnings Renovation Over $1 million category, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and the Outdoor Living Excellence Award.
But it’s that Bathroom Award that really caught our eye. Because it wasn’t just the glorious outdoor soaking, but the indoor ensuite that charmed. We especially love the shutters that open to the bedroom, enabling conversation, while also providing a view through the main bedroom and out the other side.
